The May issue of Circuit Driver is out now.
It’s Caterham Cars’ 40th anniversary and the company has two new models to commemorate. Our May front cover features their brand new R400 – powered by the 2 litre Ford Duratec – while inside there is the lower-powered Roadsport 125 which uses a 1.6-litre Ford Sigma engine. Mark Hales puts them through their paces at Cadwell Park Circuit and on the nearby roads of Lincolnshire.
Elsewhere in the May issue Mark Hales continues his How to Drive Series with a comprehensive look at Mallory Park circuit, while avid track day visitor Jeremy Copp adds his usual notes on the surrounding amenities. Mike Breslin takes a look at Track Day insurance; if you’re going to take your car out on track, the worst can always happen and it might be worth your while getting yourself – and your car – properly insured. Young hot shot instructor Anthony Dunn shows how you can go from track day to podium in under one year and - there’s the return of the Rocket. James Mills finds the tandem two seater is still the ultimate expression of an extreme road car.
The Ford Duratec engine has ridden to Caterham’s rescue in the R400, and this month Dave Walker looks at its virtues in this month’s Workshop. Not only that, but drive-by-wire throttles, double injectors and cam-timing.
Our columnists meanwhile remain their opinionated selves; Dave Walton talks about the time he got caught speeding… and wearing gloves, boots and a full race suit. Phil Bennett says that Lewis Hamilton deserve his praise but not to forget all the other successful British racing drivers out there. And Mark Hales races at one of Europe’s best kept secrets; Jarama circuit near Madrid. He’s far too modest to mention that he and his co-driver finished second after eight hours.
All of this plus essential news from race and track day, race calendar, product reviews and of course the indispensable Track Day Diary.
